MNHS tops Division ASEAN quiz bee

Manay NHS quizzer, Jon Paul Cloma snatched the champ title in ASEAN Quiz Bee held at Manay National High School on August 20, 2013.
As the quiz started, the coaches’ and participants’ hearts were pounding. The quiz had a little problem regarding the questions, but was then fixed. After three rounds, a winner finally emerged who was the quizzer of Manay National High School, Jon Paul Cloma with a score of 29 out of 60 points.
Cloma said, “I never thought I would win”. “I just prayed that He would guide me, but He gave me more, that’s why I made it to the top”, he added.
On the other hand, Cateel National Agricultural High School grabbed the second place with a score of 25 points. Del Pilar National High School got the third place with a score of 23.
Aside from ASEAN Quiz bee, Essay Writing Competition was also part of the event but it was not yet judged on that day because of its large number. Scribes from schools of Davao Oriental participated in the said contest. Dejie Mae Saumat was the participant of MNHS for the essay writing competition.
The events were held in accordance to the celebration of the ASEAN’s 46th founding anniversary. They wore costumes of ASEAN Member States which added color to the celebration. The theme of the celebration is, “We’re Asians: A Race of Unity and Peace”.
Mr. Gierson S. Rosa, the supervisor of Araling Panlipunan in Davao Oriental initiated the event to let the students recognize the importance of having an association especially ASEAN.
The winners of the competitions were expected to represent the division of Davao Oriental in the Regional Quiz Bee and Essay Writing Contest.
