Stakeholders, LGU prop up Adopt-a-child program

Saturday, September 28, 2013

The local government unit of Manay, Davao Oriental with the stakeholders of Manay NHS supported Adopt-A-Child program. This was strengthened by signing of memorandum of agreement on September 27, 2013 at Manay NHS.

Adopt-a-child program is a scholarship that helps under privilege but deserving students, giving them opportunity to study and reach their dreams. It was Mr. Erwin Lad, a Mathematics Coordinator of Manay NHS, who proposed the idea and shared it to the municipal councilors.

He attended sessions of Sangguniang Kabataan. He asked the councilors to sponsor the students in their fees in school. Hon. Japhet M. Quibo and Hon. Eugene Roy Balante then accepted Mr. Lad’s proposal and helped him find more sponsors to aid more students.

Fortunately, all the remaining municipal councilors, including the mayor, agreed to the program. Each sponsor decided to choose 10 scholars while the good mayor promised to sponsor 20 students. All in all, there are 90 benefactors of the said program.

Sponsors attended the launching of the program were Hon. Japhet Quibo and Hon. Eugene Roy Balante who helped Mr. Lad to push through it believing that through this program, they can help in their own little ways some students in this institution. The two young municipal councilors spoke in the program leaving the words, “Hard work, sacrifice and discipline, are the keys for you to succeed.”

Mrs. Gema Franciquete, the school head and the Mrs. Josephine Tuco were glad because they did not expect the overwhelming response of the LGU to this program because it does also help the school reduce dropout rate which is brought by poverty. With this, the school is able to comply with the Education for All (EFA) program of the DepEd.

The parents of the benefactors were very happy and thankful to the sponsors for their worries regarding their children’s studies are mitigated.
