School Head, Reading Coordinator spear head Reading Program implementation
Monday, November 11, 2013
Mrs. Gema C. Francisquete, the school Head Teacher VI with Mrs. Dina Cloma, the reading coordinator spearheaded the implementation of the reading program in school which aimed to improve the students’ competence in reading and comprehension.
The program was given top priority when the school received SBM grants in the amount of one hundred fifty thousand pesos (P 150,000.00) last school year 2012-2013. It was all spent in acquiring the SRA Builders, the reading materials from the ABIVA Publishing Company.
These books now are used by the reading teachers in all year levels because it was observed that students need remediation in reading to address their difficulties in absorbing the lessons especially in Science and Mathematics which use English as medium of instruction.
The reading class schedule is inserted in the class program of the school for this school year and hopefully onwards if the results would be favorable.
In the first year of the program’s implementation, the school has afforded a room near the library as the reading center where the reading materials are kept. During free time some students go there and enjoy reading books and magazines that are helpful in enhancing their reading skills.
The parents and stakeholders of the school are very supportive to this program upon knowing the benefits of it to their children.
