Robbery takes San Ignacio by surprise

Thursday, November 7, 2013

San Ignacio Parish was robbed.

It was on November 6, 2013, when the entire barangay was asleep; the suspect broke into Rev. Fr. Bernard Albao’s room where the money was kept.

The suspect took advantage of the absence of the priest, entered the room through the window which he had destroyed using iron bar and took more or less forty thousand pesos (P40, 000.00) with him and fled right away.

The money the suspect took came from the intentions on All Souls’ Day and other church collections, tithes and priest’s stipend from different GKKs and parishioners of San Ignacio de Loyola parish. The percentage of the money was supposed to be remitted by the parish to the diocese of Mati.

Before giving the mass’ final blessing on Sunday, November 10, 2013, Fr. Albao said that he never blamed the suspect for doing such crime; instead he said that maybe the suspect did such sinful act out of poverty and great need.

However, the parish priest did not tolerate this. He still demanded for justice of the crime committed. He wanted the criminal to have a punishment that he deserves so he may realize his wrong deeds and ask for God’s forgiveness.

The suspect is still at large but there were speculations and hints on which he really is. The parish priest turned the case over to the police for further investigation to gather more evidences to make sure of the actions to be undertaken.

The people of San Ignacio were surprised because this was the first time that someone robbed the parish and took a lot of money.
