SSG training upholds Students’ leadership skills

The Manay National High School Supreme Student Government held a Leadership Training and Workshop last August 26, 2010 at the Manay NHS Social Hall. It started at exactly 7:30 in the morning, which was participated by the Homeroom Officers, Club Officers, Coordinating Councils and SSG Officers, who facilitated the said event.

Several talks were given by the SSG officers who were Rhayfeil Sinamao, SSG President, Warren Grace Cosare, SSG Secretary and Homer John Reyes, SSG Treasurer in the morning of the said affair.

In the afternoon, Mrs. Letecia Nacional, the SSG Adviser gave her talk about the qualities of a responsible student leader, and it was followed by the talk of the principal, Mr. Gil T. Lasmarias about Parliamentary Procedure, which was participated by the student leaders.

Padang wins SK Chairmanship

Vinz Marc Padang, a third year student of Manay National High School, filed his candidacy for the SK elections and tried to get the position as SK chairman. Last October 8, 2010 he went to the COMELEC Office at Manay, Davao Oriental together with his constituents to file his candidacy.

He prepared greatly for his campaign and already asked the youth to support him. He also asked the school and the principal to help him in the campaign period being one of the students of MNHS. At his early campaign, many had already vowed to support him in this coming election.

MNHS obtains Lawaan seedlings

Manay National High School received sixty-nine Lawaan seedlings on September 9, 2010 at the MNHS campus. It was given by the Department of Environment and Natural resources.

MNHS was lucky to have that rare seedlings because that tree was considered endangered because Lawaan is one of the best material to make plywood. It was agreed that the fourth year students would plant the tree and they would not graduate if that Lawaan tree would die.

MNHS holds youth camp

A youth camp was held at MNHS campus on September 18-19, 2010. The said youth camp was headed by the Youth for Christ (YFC) which was spearheaded by their chapter head, Kurt Darren Viernesto and Jelenne Kaye Cloma with the assistance of the YFC Couple Coordinators, Mr. And Mrs. Edgar Cloma.

There were also some YFC coming from Caraga, Davao Oriental to help the YFC of San Ignacio in conducting the youth camp ith forty participants joined.

There were many activities done in the camp such as sharing of experiences and talks that awakened their feelings and enhanced their spiritual lives. There were also games, showcasing of talents and campfire that made everyone enjoy.

MNHS culminates Intrams 2010

On October 1, 2010 we had successfully held our intramurals despite the warmness of the day and almost everyone in the field is very proud and enthusiastic about their activities.

The Culminating Activity took place first off around 8:30 am before the program and thank God the weather cooperates us for we really had tons of sweat all day long.

The program started through the leading prayer by Justine Pol Tana that took for several minutes then seconded by the saluting of the flag before the Opening Remarks. The Dance Troop came not long to perk up the program of course there still some sleepy eyes to be liven-up.

Mayor Dayanghirang motivates San Ignacio

“Ang sekreto aron magmalambuon ang barangay ay ang pagpaningkamot dili lang kay sa usa ka tao… maningkamot tang tanan…” stressed Mayor Jon Marco Dayanghirang as he delivered his speech during the Araw ng Barangay San Ignacio at the San Ignacio gymnasium on July 29, 2010.

Mayor Dayanghirang pointed out that people should work hard to make the barangay a progressive one. He also thanked the people for entrusting him their votes last May 10, 2010 that made him sit in the position as mayor.

“Rest assured, buhaton ko ang tanan nga akong mahimo, labi na para sa mga kabus.” said he as he continued his speech.

Manay NHS receives 11 Computers

New computers were given by the DepEd for Manay National High School handled by the ICT coordinator, Mr. Joel Bangahon of ICT department. There were eleven computers for the ICT students to develop their skills.

New computers arrived on April 4, 2010. DepEd observed that the computers that Manay NHS had were not enough to sustain the knowledge of the students they need because Manay NHS has few computers and it is old.

As I interviewed one of the computer students, he said that the computers were old and it can’t carry big files. In some reasons, there are times that it hangs on its own.

Manay Municipal Unit Initiates Pinta Caravalsa Con Coco-Comida Competition

The municipal unit of Manay headed by the municipal mayor, Hon. Jon Marco Dayanghirang instigated the Pinta Caravalsa Con Coco-Comida Competition (Carabao Painting and Balsa decoration and Kakanin Expo) for its 113th Parochial Fiesta on October 25, 2010 at Manay Baywalk Park, Manay, Davao Oriental.

It was a free competition which was participated by different barangays and sectors. Each participant must be composed of members not more than five and must possess tools for painting such as paint brush, paint, etc. including the female carabao and balsa.

This competition aimed to develop the skills and talents, creativity and artistry of painters, be it an amateur or professional. Another goal of the competition is to enhance the expertise of the Manayans in terms of cooking various locally made coconut ingredient food products (kakanin).

Mamparo, Simene crowned as Mr. and Ms. Fashionista

The candidates from Old Macopa NHS Ms. Jean Hazel Simene and Mr. Elmer Mamparo from Evaresto Moralison NVHS grasp the Mr. and Ms. Fashionista in their fashion show during the 1st world teacher’s day celebration of cluster B schools in the 1st district of Davao Oriental hosted by Manay NHS last October 6, 2010.

It is the most highlight part of the one day activity. A part that gave the students lot of enjoyment to the advisers, faculty and staff, school heads, and especially to the students.

Every school must have a minimum of 2 representatives in male and female category. Only the Manay NHS had the 2 representatives in the female category, the rest had only 1. In the male, all schools had only 1 delegate.

Juniors bag trophies during Buwan ng Wika

Third year students happily celebrated their victory when they harvested the first prize for the different tilts during the celebration of Buwan ng Wika on August 28, 2010 at the MNHS Conference Hall with the theme, “Pangangalaga sa Wika at Kalikasan, Wagas na Pagmamahal Talagang Kailangan.”

They were really joyous when they heard the names of their bets called at the stage to get the first prize.

Liezel Faye Ampilanon and Mayo Ladion won for Poster and Slogan Making. Berly Ann dela Cruz also coming from third year Asters got the first place for the Essay Writing Contest while Dazzle Jane Mas grabbed the rank one for the Quiz Bee.

Intramurals discovers students’ skills

The intramurals was done on Sep. 27, - Oct. 1, 2010 at the MNHS. This was participated by the students and facilitated by the teachers. Many sports were played by the students. Those were basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, athletics, throwing, sepak takraw, taekwondo and the most highlight of all the contests is the Dance Exercise, which was won by the II-A.

On Oct. 1, 2010 was the culmination program. Mrs. Mabel Olea, the Mapeh coordinator announced the overall champion and all the students were excited for the proclamation.

DepEd, DOH launch Anti-Tetanus Toxoid vaccination

The Department of Education in partnership with the Department of Health commence vaccination for women aged fourteen and above. Manay National High School was one of the schools which availed the program.

Nimfa Ampilanon, a midwife and the attending officer of the San Ignacio Health Center together with Mrs. Merlinda Sanadayan, a volunteer worker headed the vaccination on September 28, 2010 at the MNHS corridor.

DENR, Manay NHS sign MOA

Manay NHS and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) signed MOA on September 15, 2010 at Manay NHS Court.

Mr. Gil T. Lasmarias the principal of the MNHS and the personnel from the DENR, San Ignacio namely: Mr. Eduardo Ragaza, Mr. Mariano BasaƱez, Mr. Gretel Basoc and Mr. Dexon Mangmang witnessed the event in the afternoon of that date.

Mr. Eduardo Ragaza who is the Cenro officer read the said memorandum. The objectives of the MOA are to adopt and maintain the mini forest park at the school compound and established MNHS as a pilot school for mini forest.

As part of the agreement, the MNHS and DENR must share their responsibilities in establishing MNHS a pilot school for mini forest. The DENR must supply the seedlings, provide support for logistics and shades and the MNHS to plant tree seedlings provided by DENR and to maintain and protect the tree seedlings.

DENR staffs endure ambush

The three forest rangers of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), of San Ignacio, Manay, Davao Oriental namely: Pacquito Gica, Mario Tasic, and Abilino Abaniel survived from ambush on August 21, 2010, 2:00 pm, at Sitio Danaw, Lianga, Surigao Del Sur.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Regional Office, ordered the members of the Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force including the three staffs from San Ignacio, 4 from Baganga, and 2 from Lupon; representing Region XI together with the personnel from Region IX and XII to go to Comval Province with the aim to minimize illegal cutting of trees

At 11:30 am, August 20, 2010, they suddenly received an urgent order from Provincial Environment and Natural Resource Officer ( PENRO ) through a phone call, saying that there were illegally cut logs from Sitio Danaw,Liangga, Surigao Del Sur under CENRO Liangga that should have to be confiscated. The group proceeded immediately to the reported site escorted by thirty PNP’s and fifty militaries riding two "forwards".

Cluster-B schools commemorate Teachers' Day

Cluster-B schools celebrated teachers’ day to be given recognition of their efforts to teach the students. It was done on October 6, 2010 at MNHS campus grounds and was participated by Del Pilar National High School, Old Macopa National High School, Tarragona National High School, Evaristo Moralizon National Vocational High School and Manay National High School.

It was a one-day affair with different contests for the teachers. Those were Comedy-in-Pair, Doble-Kara and the highlight of the event, the fashion show. The teachers also played some sports such as Badminton, Volleyball and Table Tennis.

The teachers proved to the students and the crowd that they were versatile and can do many things.

MNHS won for the Doble-Kara and EMNVHS grabbed the first place for the Comedy-in-Pair. Ms. Jean Hazel Simene, a teacher from OMNHS clutched the crown as Ms. Fashionista while Mr. Elmer Mamparo from EMNVHS won as Mr. Fashionista..

Amateur Singing Contest results in Camangyan's death

A radio commentator of Sunrise FM in Mati City, Davao Oriental named Desidario “Jessie” Camangyan was shot dead at Brgy. Old Macopa, Manay, Davao Oriental on June 14, 2010
during the Brgy. fiesta celebration.

The victim was invited by the Brgy. Captain to host the amateur singing contest which was one of the activities of the celebration. While performing the task assigned to him, someone from the crowd pitilessly killed him.

Everyone was shocked and scampered away from the scene for safety leaving behind the victim, his wife and 6 year old child.

Few days after, a suspect was identified by the wife who personally witnessed the brutal incident who is now under the custody of PNP.

Cloma's Research Makes Way to the National Grand Slam

The proponent, a senior student Jelenne Kaye M. Cloma bore the flag of the only school for Davao Oriental which annually conducting experimental research. The project for this year which entitled “Green Diesel Fuel from A. Muricata (Guyabano) Seed Oils” out weighted seven participating divisions of Region XI and once again will bring the name of Manay NHS to the National level for the 3rd time.

The only high school of Davao Oriental, the proud Manay National High School (MNHS) in San Ignacio, Manay, Davao Oriental which conducting, competing and winning consistently in the Regional DepEd-Intel Philippines Science Fair.

This school year’s very early competition was conducted on September 25-26, 2010 at the NEAP Building Region XI, Quirino Avenue, Davao City.
