A radio commentator of Sunrise FM in Mati City, Davao Oriental named Desidario “Jessie” Camangyan was shot dead at Brgy. Old Macopa, Manay, Davao Oriental on June 14, 2010
during the Brgy. fiesta celebration.
The victim was invited by the Brgy. Captain to host the amateur singing contest which was one of the activities of the celebration. While performing the task assigned to him, someone from the crowd pitilessly killed him.
Everyone was shocked and scampered away from the scene for safety leaving behind the victim, his wife and 6 year old child.
Few days after, a suspect was identified by the wife who personally witnessed the brutal incident who is now under the custody of PNP.
The National Union of Journalist in the Philippines (NUJP) local chapter conducted its own investigation about the killing incident.
NUJP believes that the reasons behind the scene are possibly related to his work as radio commentator, revealing the illegal activities here in Davao Oriental.
